Men’s continuous belief in omnipotent entities is a phenomenon that has been richly documented since the start of recorded history. Depending on the era, these entities have had different names, different shapes and forms, different capabilities and powers, different regions of activity and different fields of responsibility. However, one thing that has remained constant is the phenomenon itself.

The National Maritime Museum Haifa is proud to invite you to its new and exciting exhibit “Superheroes of the Sea”. The exhibit will take you on once-in-a-life-time sea voyage, which will bring you face to face with three great entities in charge of our seas and oceans: God Poseidon, Saint Nicholas and the modern superhero Aquaman.

For over three thousand years, these superheroes have been protecting sailors, merchants and fishermen, they have been calming the seas and enabling safe passage for ships, their cargo and passengers to their ports of destination.

The exhibit will display a variety and richness of artefacts never before assembled in the same place: from archaeology through ancient, renaissance and modern art, icons, toys, comics and more.

In addition, the exhibit will offer a special interactive room for children and families where they will join the team of superheroes of The National Maritime Museum. Through play and creativity, we will learn about the importance of the superheroes to humanity. We will ask who today’s superhero is and what are the challenges he/she is facing in order to save the seas and the oceans. The children will design their own superheroes, they will draw comics and use their imagination through fun and play.

 “Superheroes of the Sea” exhibit is a great opportunity for the entire family to come, enjoy, learn and experience something new and exciting from the world of maritime past and present history.
