Micha Bar-Am (b. Berlin 1930), Israeli journalistic photographer, established the Photography Department of Tel Aviv Museum of Art, is a member in the Magnum Photographic Cooperative, and was awarded the Israel Prize for Art in 2000. Bar-Am's iconic images have become an invaluable record of the history of the State and expressions of the spirit of place. His images convey his talent for immediate and acute reaction to changing situations, and his ability to organize such documentation into fascinating compositions, into a convincing visual language. BarAm’s photographic archive is a treasure-trove of images that could fill innumerable exhibitions on an extensive range of subjects. It is only natural that his exhibition at the National Maritime Museum should relate to the sea, focusing on historic events, studies of workers, and the pleasures of living by the sea.
